By Henry Ubus
Egiegie Community, Udu LGA, Delta State – In a significant political shift, thousands of opposition party members in the Egiegie Community have defected to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the upcoming July 13th Local Government Council elections. The mass defection was officially announced yesterday, Saturday 29/06/24, marking a substantial gain for the PDP in the Udu Local Government Area.
Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Apostle Charles Ibru Tetebe cited the emergence of Olorogun Vincent Ogheneruemu Oyibode JP, FCIA, as the PDP’s Chairmanship Candidate as the primary reason for their defection. “Oyibode’s antecedents speak volumes,” Tetebe declared, emphasizing the candidate’s longstanding commitment to community development and effective leadership.
Olorogun Oyibode, expressed profound gratitude to the defectors for their trust and support. In his address, Oyibode promised to extend the MORE Agenda across all 32 communities in Udu. The MORE Agenda, a comprehensive plan aimed at fostering development, empowerment, and inclusive governance, is expected to drive substantial progress in the region.
“The trust you have placed in me is a great honor, and I am committed to not letting you down,” Oyibode stated. He elaborated on his vision for the area, which includes improving infrastructure, boosting local economies, enhancing education and healthcare services, and ensuring sustainable development practices.
This defection is anticipated to bolster the PDP’s chances in the forthcoming elections, reshaping the political landscape in Udu LGA. The community now awaits the elections with heightened anticipation, eager to see if Oyibode’s leadership and the MORE Agenda will bring the promised positive changes to the region.
